Pre-amble:
Rare earth elements (REEs) are a group of 17 chemically similar metals that have unique magnetic, luminescent, and electrical properties that make them essential for many modern technologies. These elements are crucial for a wide range of high-tech applications, including powerful permanent magnets (used in wind turbines and electric vehicles), catalysts for petroleum refining, phosphors in LED screens and lighting, lasers and optical equipment, defence technologies and medical equipment such as MRI machines. As REEs have emerged as a significant source of economic value, the competition to discover, recover, and extract them has intensified among various stakeholders.
The Mineral Processing and Rare Earth Element Extraction Seminar serves as a platform for gaining insights into the fields of mineral processing and rare earth element technologies through keynote sessions and lectures delivered by renowned experts. It offers a forum for discussions and creates networking between participants and speakers, encouraging the exchange of ideas and perspectives on mineral processing, rare earth recovery, extraction and separation and the use of the rare earth elements in development of advanced materials for various applications. This seminar provides an opportunity for researchers and students to present and publish scientific papers of their latest R&D discoveries in those field.
This seminar will be organized by the X-Ray Application Society of Malaysia, a chapter of Malaysian Nuclear Society (XApp-MNS), in collaboration with Nuclear Malaysia as the host institution. The invited speakers are selected based on their expertise and experiences in the related field with the goal of attracting participants from across Malaysia.
Who should attend:
- Researchers, scientists, academicians, and post graduate students
- Vendors and suppliers – to showcase their advancing technologies in characterizing mineral and rare earth
- Industry players – to support R&D activities in mineral and rare earth processing
Objectives:
- Equip participants with advanced understanding of mineral processing techniques, rare earth element extraction methods, and the utilization of these elements in creating advanced materials.
- Facilitate meaningful connections and knowledge sharing between government agencies, industry partners, and higher education institutions in the fields of mineral processing and analytical science workflows.
- Stimulate continuous learning and provide a recognized avenue for the publication of novel science within a national conference proceedings.
